Redbridge is one of the fastest‑growing areas in the country and the third most diverse borough in London. Our communities are attracted by excellent schools, relatively affordable housing, high quality open spaces, and fast transport links into the heart of Redbridge

About the Service

The Lifeline & Response Service provides a 24‑hour, 7‑day support service for vulnerable and elderly residents across the Borough of Redbridge.

The service responds to emergency calls from Lifeline alarm users and also manages out‑of‑hours calls for Adult Social Care. This includes contact from Social Services, District Nurses, Housing, Homeless Services, and other internal and external partner agencies.

The Role

We are looking to recruit motivated and committed individuals to join the Lifeline & Response Service.

This is a call handling, visiting, and response role. The post holder will work within the Control Room and in the community, responding to a wide range of incidents and situations. The role involves working night shifts, evenings, weekends, and bank holidays, and requires the ability to work independently and unsupervised at times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handling emergency and non‑emergency calls within the Lifeline Control Room
  • Responding to Lifeline alarm activations and out‑of‑hours Adult Social Care calls
  • Visiting vulnerable residents in their homes to provide practical support and reassurance
  • Assisting clients who may have fallen or require welfare checks
  • Installing Lifeline alarms keysafes and associated equipment (full training provided)
  • Accurately recording information and actions taken using council systems
  • Working calmly and professionally, using judgement and initiative when responding to incidents

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for an officer who:

  • Demonstrates a positive helpful attitude
  • Is confident working alone, particularly during night shifts
  • Can remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure
  • Has good communication and customer‑care skills
  • Works well both independently and as part of a team
  • Is committed to supporting vulnerable residents

Experience in call handling, care, emergency response, or social care settings is desirable, but not essential as full training will be provided.

Additional Information

  • This role requires shift work, including night shifts, weekends, and bank holidays
  • A driving licence will be required for response duties using a council vehicle.
  • Successful candidates will be subject to appropriate pre‑employment checks, including Enhanced DBS.
