Redbridge is an ambitious, diverse and exciting east-London borough. What we do is driven by changing our relationship with local people to support our vision. As a result, we've developed innovative ways to build our communities and transform our Council.
We're one of the fastest growing parts of the country and the third most diverse London borough. Our communities are attracted by a mixture of excellent schools, relatively affordable housing, high-quality open space and rapid transport connections into the heart of the city.
About Us
Redbridge Facilities Management maintains over 600 properties —schools, offices, community centres and public buildings — across the borough. We keep our estates safe, warm and in good repair. We’re seeking a practical, qualified and versatile technician with strong electrical expertise to join our responsive maintenance team.
The Role
You will carry out planned and reactive repairs, maintenance and minor improvements across Redbridge’s property portfolio.
Electrical work is your core strength, but you will also confidently handle general building, plumbing, heating and carpentry tasks. You’ll work independently and as part of a team, delivering high-quality work to residents, schools and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out electrical installations, repairs, testing and fault-finding — including lighting, power, circuits, consumer units and fixed wiring
- Complete multi-trade tasks: basic plumbing, heating, joinery, plastering and general building repairs
- Attend emergency call-outs (shared rota) — electrical faults, safety issues and urgent repairs
- Inspect, test and maintain electrical systems; complete periodic checks and certificates
- Diagnose faults accurately; specify and carry out repairs efficiently and safely
- Record all work digitally — log jobs, materials used, time taken, and upload photos via our mobile system
- Work to strict health & safety standards, wiring regulations (BS 7671) and council policies
- Liaise directly with residents, tenants and site staff — explain work clearly and courteously
- Support planned maintenance programmes and minor improvement projects
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- Electrical - City & Guilds 2365 / Level 3 Electrical Installation or equivalent; Current 18th Edition BS 7671; able to test, inspect, fault-find and issue certificates
- Multi-Trade - Practical experience in plumbing, heating, joinery or building repairs — able to carry out routine tasks confidently
- Compliance - Up-to-date knowledge of electrical safety, health & safety at work, and working in occupied premises
- Travel - Full valid clean UK manual driving licence — essential; own transport or council vehicle provided
- Skills - Good verbal communication; able to use mobile devices/apps for job logging; reliable, self-motivated and tidy
