About Us

Data Analyst – Public Health

£44,982 - £54,507

Fixed term – 12 months

Full time

Richmond and Wandsworth, with a minimum of 60% office-based working

Required to be in the office 3 times a week

Are you motivated by the idea of using data to make a visible difference to people’s health and wellbeing? This is an exciting opportunity to use your analytical skills in a role where your insight will help Richmond and Wandsworth understand local need, strengthen decision-making and focus action where it can have the greatest impact for residents.

We are pleased to offer a 12-month fixed term opportunity for a Public Health Data Analyst to join the Assurance and Innovation Division within the Adult Social Care and Public Health Directorate. You will be part of a supportive and committed performance and intelligence function, working closely with Public Health colleagues, operational teams, commissioners and wider partners to turn complex data into clear, practical insight that shapes strategy, service planning and improvement.

About the role

In this role, you will help strengthen Public Health intelligence across Richmond and Wandsworth by bringing together data, evidence and professional curiosity to answer important questions about population health, service need and health inequalities.

You will:

  • Analyse large and complex datasets, apply statistical and epidemiological methods, and produce high-quality outputs that support statutory duties and local priorities, including the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment, Annual Director of Public Health Report, Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment, health needs assessments, dashboards, and service evaluations.
  • Help colleagues see the story behind the data. You will translate technical analysis into accessible reports, dashboards and visual insights that support evidence-based decisions, improve understanding of health and wellbeing outcomes, and help identify where services, programmes and partnerships can make the biggest difference.
  • Have the opportunity to develop your expertise in a collaborative environment, working alongside Public Health specialists, the Adults Performance Team, Corporate Insight colleagues and external knowledge networks, including the London Knowledge and Intelligence Service. We will support you to share best practice, apply new approaches and continue building your skills in public health intelligence and data visualisation.
  • Be comfortable working in a busy and changing environment, balancing competing priorities and collaborating with colleagues across different professional backgrounds. You will bring a strong eye for detail, sound judgement and a commitment to using data responsibly, securely and ethically.
  • To undertake data and literature reviews (and other relevant searches), critically appraise the evidence, and produce clear evidence-based summaries and actionable recommendations to support the development, implementation and evaluation of policies, programmes and strategies that improve health and wellbeing and reduce health inequalities.

In return, you will have the chance to contribute to meaningful work that supports better health, wellbeing and equity across two diverse London boroughs.

About you

We are looking for someone who is curious, analytical and motivated by the opportunity to use evidence to improve outcomes for local communities. You will already have experience in public health, health intelligence, social care, research, analytics or another relevant data-focused environment. What matters most is that you can work confidently with complex information, draw out meaningful insight and communicate it clearly to people who may not have a technical background.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Experience analysing complex public health, health-related or similarly sensitive datasets and producing clear, actionable insight.
  • Strong quantitative analytical skills, with an understanding of statistical, epidemiological or other relevant analytical methods.
  • Experience contributing to health needs assessments, evaluations, intelligence reports, dashboards or similar analytical outputs.
  • Highly developed IT and analytical skills, including tools such as Excel, Power BI, Power Query, SQL, R or Python.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data and evidence into clear narratives for a range of audiences.
  • Experience managing confidential datasets securely and appropriately, in line with information governance, data protection and data sharing requirements.
  • Good organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage a varied workload and work collaboratively across teams.
  • A degree in public health, economics, biomedical science, statistics, data science, another numerate or health-related subject, or equivalent experience.
